6:00 PM Wednesday 1 December 2010 | Philomathean Halls
Join the Philomathean Society for a special preview of “Paris Through the Window: Marc Chagall and His Circle,” opening in March of 2011 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Art Exhibit: Undressing Race
4:00 PM Sunday 14 November 2010 | Cohen Hall’s Fox Art Gallery
Undressing Race is Penn Race Dialogue Project’s Fall Art Exhibit Find the event on Facebook.
“Undressing Race” examines the intersection of race and human exteriors. Our collection of t-shirt designs probes race as an appearance that an individual is unable to choose, as a shirt one can never take off. Underneath our clothing, skin color also subjects individuals to a set of assumptions. A photography piece explores the diversity of the human skin tone gradient. In the Philomathean Art Gallery, mixed media pieces by a Philadelphia artist explore layered identities.
Contributors to our exhibit include: Philadelphia artist Sophie Sanders, Shrestha Singh (C’12), and other Philadelphia and Penn student artists!
Opening event featuring Excelano Project, DJ Rico, and free food: Sunday 11/14 at 4pm in Cohen Hall’s Fox Art Gallery (Cohen Hall Ground Floor, entrance between Terrace Room and G-17) Gallery will run from 11/14 – 12/8 (Closing event, “Redressing Race” on 12/8)
